SailPro is the brainchild of Peter La Fontaine and his company, Clearscope Solutions. With over 40 years of yacht racing experience and more than 35 years in the technology industry, including a decade running his own software business and prior work with tech giants like Dell, Cisco, and Samsung, Peter brings a wealth of expertise to the table.
Recognizing the proliferation of high-priced, proprietary computing devices flooding the market, Peter saw an opportunity to revolutionize the sailing industry. He observed the rapid advancement of Bluetooth and wearable technology, particularly in Android and iOS devices like smartphones and smartwatches from Apple and Samsung. Leveraging the computing power and ergonomic advantages of these ubiquitous gadgets seemed like a natural progression. Sailors already possess powerful computing tools in their pockets or on their wrists, making costly proprietary systems unnecessary.
While the concept of utilizing smartphones and smartwatches for sailing applications is sound, Peter understood the importance of device independence. Sailors use a variety of platforms, including Apple, Android, Samsung, Garmin, and more. SailPro was designed from the outset with cross-platform compatibility in mind, enabling it to run seamlessly on diverse devices. The ultimate goal is to extend this compatibility to platforms like Garmin, ensuring that SailPro remains accessible to all sailors, regardless of their device preferences.
SailPro V1.0 marks the beginning of an exciting journey. While the app already boasts numerous features, the roadmap includes rapid expansion and enhancement. Comparable products like Strava have demonstrated the potential for tech-based sporting platforms, and SailPro aims to follow suit. Moreover, Peter and his team are committed to developing SailPro in collaboration with its users. Subscribers not only provide crucial financial support but also offer valuable feedback on feature enhancements, usability improvements, and more.
